On the authority of Abdullah bin Abbas, who said : One day I was behind the prophet and he said to me: "Young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice] : Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, ask of Allah; if you seek help, seek help of Allah. Know that if the Nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, it would benefit you only with something that Allah had already prescribed for you, and that if they gather together to harm you with anything, they would harm you only with something Allah had already prescribed for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried."
narrated by Termithi, who said it is true and fine hadith
In a version other than that of Tirmithi it reads:
"..Be mindful of Allah, you will find Him before you. Get to know Allah in prosperity and He will know you in adversity. Know that what has passed you by was not going to befall you; and that what has befallen you was not going to pass you by. And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and ease with hardship."

Hadiths 19
Aboû el-Abbâs Abdallâh ben Abbâs (que Dieu soit satisfait de lui et de son père) a dit: «J`étais un jour derrière le Prophète (à lui, bénédiction et salut) (en croupe sur sa mule), et il me dit:
« O jeune homme, je vais t`enseigner quelques préceptes. Observe les commandements de dieu, il te protègera . Observe les commandements de dieu, tu le trouveras devant toi. Lorsque tu as à demander quelque chose, demande à Allah Lorsque tu as à implorer assistance, implore assistance auprès d`Allah Sache que si la communauté est d`accord, à l`unanimité, pour te faire quelque bien, cela ne te profitera que dans la mesure où Allah te l`aurait assigné, et si elle est d`accord à l`unanimité pour te causer quelque tort, tu n`en pâtiras en rien, sinon dans la mesure où Allah en aurait ainsi décidé à ton encontre. Certes, les calames sont levés et l`encre des feuillets a séché ».
selon une autre version, on a:
« observe les commandements d`Allah, tu le trouveras devant toi. Informe-toi de Lui, dans l`aisance: Il te connaître dans la misère. Sache que ce qui destiné à t`éviter, ne t`atteindra pas et ce qui est destiné à t`atteindre, ne te manquera pas. Sache que la constance fait remporter la victoire, la joie suit l`adversité, et la richesse la misère ».
